About the show
My Neighbour Totoro takes you to the Japanese countryside of the 1950s where sisters Satsuki and Mei move house while their mother recovers in hospital. In the midst of this change they meet forest spirits, including the giant Totoro, and embark on an emotional and enchanted journey. The West End production uses inventive puppetry, immersive staging and beautiful music to bring the world of the film to life for all ages.
Adapted by Tom Morton‑Smith from the 1988 animated film by Hayao Miyazaki (produced by Studio Ghibli), the show premiered at the Barbican Centre in London in October 2022 and went on to return for another season before transferring into the West End in March 2025.
The production is directed by Phelim McDermott and features music by Joe Hisaishi who also scored the original film.
